Performing a puja before using a new car, bike, or vehicle is a cherished tradition in Telugu families. The blessing is believed to protect the vehicle and its occupants from accidents and negative energies. While a full Muhurtham with a pandit is ideal for expensive vehicles, even a simple home puja with a coconut, flowers, and kumkum is observed on the day of delivery.
Auspicious Days for Vehicle Delivery
Wednesday (Budha Vara) is traditionally the best day for vehicle-related activities, as Mercury governs vehicles, trade, and movement. Rohini, Hasta, Pushya, and Ashwini Nakshatrams are considered favorable for vehicle purchase and delivery. Avoid Rahukalam for the moment of taking delivery or starting the vehicle for the first time.
What the Car Puja Involves
A basic car puja involves washing the vehicle, applying kumkum and turmeric on the hood and tires, placing a lemon under each tire (which is then crushed by driving over it), tying a nimba (neem) leaf garland, and breaking a coconut at the front. A full puja with a pandit adds Ganapati Puja, Navagraha Archana, and Ayudha Puja mantras.
When to Check Muhurtham
Use the Mana Pandit Muhurtham tool and look for vehicle or Ayudha-related occasions. If you need a pandit to conduct the ceremony at a showroom or home, browse the Services and Pandits pages.
