Preparing the pooja items in advance makes Varalakshmi Vratam simple and organized. Having everything ready before the pooja begins helps devotees perform the vratam peacefully without last-minute interruptions.

Commonly used pooja items include turmeric, kumkum, sandalwood paste, akshata, a kalash, coconut, mango leaves, flowers, flower garlands, betel leaves, betel nuts, a diya, oil or ghee, cotton wicks, incense, camphor, Panchamrit, fruits, naivedyam, tambulam, a nine-strand sacred thread or toram, clean cloth, a saree for Goddess Lakshmi, and a Lakshmi face or mask if followed in your tradition.

Preparing the Pooja Space

Clean the house and prepare a dedicated pooja area. Traditionally, the northeast or east direction is considered suitable. Place a clean platform or stool, cover it with a fresh cloth, and spread rice before placing the kalash.

How to Prepare the Kalash

Fill a clean kalash with water and add a little turmeric, akshata, and a coin if desired. Arrange five or seven mango leaves around the top and place a coconut over them. Apply turmeric and kumkum to the coconut and decorate the kalash with flowers. A Lakshmi face may be placed and decorated according to family tradition.
